Leading a Run

Must Dos

  • Let people know ASAP if you can't make it.
  • Introduce yourself to everyone.
  • Provide your contact number to the group.
  • On a hot day, check that everyone has water.

Strongly Recommended

  • Get someone to assist if you can - always good to have back up in case.
  • Leave markings if separate groups.
    • Just drawings on the ground or sticks in the shape of an arrow.
  • Work out the course prior to the day and share online.
    • Matt Hosking can assist if required.
    • Even a rough idea is good so people know what they're in for.
    • Indicate water availability and toilet stops if it's a longer run.
  • Bring a first aid kit.
    • Let them know either way if you do or don't.
    • Establish if any others in the group have one.
    • Also good to get a show of hands for first aid trained.
  • Print off the sign out sheet.
    • Put it in a zip lock bag with a pen or two.
    • Get everyone to fill in name and number at the start.
    • Place the sign out sheet somewhere secure and tell everyone where to find it.
    • Remind them to sign out.
    • Check everyone signed out at the end.
    • Ring anyone that didn't and check them off.
    • Worst case if they are lost, try to offer assistance in locating them and involve others if possible to assist.

Helpful Tips

  • Ideally arrive about 15 minutes early.
  • Post some photos in the group afterwards and let everyone know how it went!
